U.S. seeking permanent presence in Syria Kurdish regions

Syria (KurdPress) – A former U.S. official has stated that his country is seeking to establish a military base in Syria Kurdish regions and thereby remain in the region for a long period of time.

U.S. announcing support to Kurds in Syria and equipping them in near future is an unexpected Washington attempt in spite of harsh Turkey opposition with cooperation between the U.S. and Syrian Kurdish forces of Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG).

Michael Fallon, a former U.S. defense ministry, has called the event as natural since the U.S. has no other way to defeat the IS in Syria except receiving support from Syrian Kurds and arming the YPG.

The official told Russia Today that the U.S. will not quit the Syrian northeastern regions as Washington seeks to pave the way for the establishment of a permanent military base in the region, adding that the U.S. creation of a military base in the region is natural as White House does not want to quit Syria as it did after the fall of Saddam Hussein in Iraq.

The U.S. is seeking to cement its presence in Syria and Iraq with the help of Kurds.
