Charleston’s Killer Cop Brings Focus Back to Police Brutality

North Charleston, SC (TFC) – Officer Michael T. Slager, a white cop in North Charleston, South Carolina, can clearly be seen shooting a 50-year old black man, Walter Scott, in the back 8 times as Scott runs for his life.  He has been charged with murder by Charleston officials. The Mayor, Keith Summey, has supported the charges.  The incident occurred following a traffic stop for a missing brake light.  Initially, North Charleston police reported that the fatal shooting occurred after Scott stole Slager’s taser and fled.  NCPD released an official statement saying Slager “feared for his life” and killed the man in the struggle.  Citizen recorded video has proven this to be completely untrue and has led to the officer’s arrest.

“Police in a matter of hours declared the occurrence at the corner of Remont and Craig roads a traffic stop gone wrong, alleging the dead man fought with an officer over his Taser before deadly force was employed.  A statement released by North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said a man ran on foot from the traffic stop and an officer deployed his department-issued Taser in an attempt to stop him.  That did not work, police said, and an altercation ensued as the men struggled over the device.  Police allege that during the struggle the man gained control of the Taser and attempted to use it against the officer,” reported the Post And Courier.

I ask you to watch the video and judge for yourself the accuracy of this official statement.

Following the announcement of Walter Scott’s murder, Slager’s lawyer, David Aylor, echoed the fallacious statement saying, “The driver tried to overpower Officer Slager in an effort to take his Taser…Slager thinks he properly followed all procedures and policies before resorting to deadly force.”  Of course he does, folks.  That is why he has yet to make a public statement with his own mouth, his own face, and his own brain.  Right now he sits in jail, awaiting trial.  South Carolina police have fired their weapons at 209 suspects without a single conviction over the last 5 years.  “We ruled all the shootings were justified- and we looked at dozens and dozens of them,” a former prosecutor told The State.

If that is the case, I recommend the prosecution look at this video with an electron microscope.  I see no struggle.  I see Walter Scott talking to Slager at close proximity.  I see a taser fall to the ground. I see Slager reach for his gun.  I see Walter Scott run for his life.  I see Slager fire 8 rounds into Walter Scott’s back.  I see Walter Scott fall to the ground.  I hear Slager demand Scott, now riddled with bullets, to put his hands behind his back over and over again.  I see no reason the taser wasn’t picked up and used instead of a lethal barrage of bullets. I see another common man becoming an unintentional hero by wielding a smart phone that has shown the country the truth and put a killer in jail, hopefully for longer than a few days.

I wonder if Slager sat down and watched this video and repeated the paragraph above to himself 10 times if he would still believe his own lies.  Is his delusion too deep to be reversed?

Anthony Scott, Walter’s brother, was surprisingly forgiving to police in a statement made to CNN, “All we wanted was the truth.  I don’t think that all police officers are bad cops, but there are some bad ones out there, and I don’t want to see anyone get shot down the way my brother got shot down.”

If you only watch network news, then you probably won’t see people getting gunned down by police.  Visit and you might discover some shocking truths about the brutality of American police.  American cops are killing about 1 person every 8 hours in 2015.  As of April 7, 312 American citizens have been murdered by police officers.  US cops killed more people in March than the UK police have killed since 1900.  Those are just the murderers.  That doesn’t include the endless beatings, rapes, pedophilia, and most bizarrely, cannibalism.

Homan Square is the name of the Black Site torture prison that was found in Chicago last month to little media fanfare.  At least one person was killed in Homan Square and all were denied legal representation, phone calls, and were not even listed as ever being there.  Torture, abuse, intimidation and drugs being used on suspects during interrogations are all alleged to have happened at Homan Square.  I asked 25 people on the street if they were aware of a Black Site torture prison called Homan Square in Chicago, where American citizens were being tortured.  Every single one said no.  Most shrugged it off like they had heard nothing worth retaining.  Meanwhile in Kentucky, riots broke out because a group of kids that don’t get paid to play for coaches that make millions didn’t throw a ball into a hole enough times.  Where are your priorities America?  That is a rhetorical question with an answer that is nauseating.

After video surfaced of Walter Scott being gunned down as he ran for his life, North Charleston Mayor, Keith Summey said, “I can tell you that as the result of the video and the bad decision made by our officer, he will be charged with murder.  When you’re wrong, you’re wrong.  And if you make a bad decision- don’t care if you’re behind the shield or just a citizen on the street- you have to live by that decision.”  A bad decision?  A bad decision leaves you embarrassed or costs you extra money.  This was a premeditated execution.  Slager calmly pulled his gun out and shot Walter Scott 8 times because he could and because he wanted to.  Although it is very pleasing to see at least one American politician be critical of a killer cop in public, his words still leave something to be desired.

The best thing we as a society can take from this tragedy is that Slager would still be patrolling the streets if it weren’t for the bravery and courage of an ordinary citizen with a smart phone.  The public relations cover-up machine went into high gear immediately after this murder occurred.  If it weren’t for this anonymous crusader, Slager would still be on the streets and may very well have gone on to murder someone else and still not make major media headlines.

Being a police officer is not an easy job, especially in America.  Not counting murders by cops, there are over 11000 gun murders in this country each year.  We have a culture obsessed with violence.  Right now, a lot of people hate cops.  Cops have been shot and killed in response to their brutality.  There are dangerous criminals in America.  It is important to understand that cops are also human.  Mistakes happen during high stress, think or die moments.  This was not one of those moments.  Many of the dead men, women, and children at the hands of cops have died simply because they pissed a cop off on a bad day.  That is completely reprehensible and unjustifiable.  Murderers kill because they want to.  A police officer should kill only because he is saving his life or the life of another innocent person.  PERIOD.

The websites of Cop Block, Filming Cops, The Free Thought Project, Anti-Media, Counter Current News and of course The Fifth Column report about police violence on a daily basis.  All of them rely on anonymous submissions from citizens to illustrate the extent of police brutality in America.  Both Cop Block and Filming Cops have extensive resources and instructions teaching you how to safely and legally film police activity.  Police are scared to death of cameras. Michael Heise’s Peace with Police videos show police roll their windows up, drive away, ignore questions, and completely avoid any kind of alternative media attention.  They know they can’t keep this up forever with citizens like you and me constantly holding them accountable for their actions.  There are many free police scanner apps for mobile phones and the average smart phone has a better quality camera than the best digital camcorder from 10 years ago.  These are amazing tools that aren’t just meant for dick pics and cat videos.  Imagine how the Kennedy assassination would have unfolded if it wasn’t just Abraham Zapruder with a shaky Super 8 camera, but a sea of spectators holding smart phones and recording the assassination. Your video could end up changing the world.
