Pyongyang, North Korea – North Korea’s only true ally has increased security along the border after violent incidents in China’s border regions.
The attacks are typically perpetrated by North Korean soldiers and police officers who cross the border to extort or rob Chinese citizens. 20 Chinese citizens have been killed since 2012.
Last month Chinese civilians were sent to patrol the border, now the government has sent troops to secure all border crossings between the two countries. In the past, North Koreans could travel freely without a visa into China.
