Boko Haram Attacks Chad for the First Time

N’Jamena, Chad – The Boko Haram have crossed into Chad for the first time. The attack took place after the Islamic extremist group crossed into the country from Nigeria.

The attackers traveled over Lake Chad in three canoes. The attack killed between five and ten people in the village of Ngouboua. Homes were also set on fire, and the area has become so volatile that aid workers may only travel there with a military escort.

Chad has previously launched attacks

against the Boko Haram in neighboring Cameroon and Nigeria.

This most recent development is likely to turn what was an internal conflict in Nigeria into a regional war.
