Kurds are under heavy pressure to call off referendum

(KurdPress) – The chief of Kurdistan Region Referendum and Election Commission has stated that the Kurdish leaders of the region are under heavy pressure from world powers to call off their planned referendum set for September 25.

Handrin Muhammad told Sputnik news agency that Iraqi Kurds are on heavy pressure from world powers in order to call off their referendum.

Unfortunately, we are under heavy pressure from regional and world powers over the referendum, he said.

Muhammad reiterated that despite the pressures and oppositions from Baghdad and the Iraqi parliament the Kurds would continue preparations to hold the referendum despite the severe pressure.
