New York, New York (IMEMC) – The UN General Assembly has adopted, by a vast majority, eight resolutions in favor of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and the special committee to investigate Israeli practices affecting the basic human rights of the Palestinian people.
The resolutions were adopted upon the recommendation of the Fourth Committee specialized of the political issues and decolonization.
These drafts were included under two basic terms, the first related to UNRWA, where the General Assembly adopted the four following resolutions:
1. Draft resolution on assistance to Palestine refugees approved by a recorded vote of 165 in favor to and 1 against (Israel), with 9 abstention. 2. Draft resolution concerned of persons displaced as a result of the June 1967 conflicts and subsequent hostilities, approved by a recorded vote of 164 in favor to 7 against, with 7 abstention. 3. Draft resolution in the need for the continuation of the UNRWA work, approved by a recorded vote of 169 in favor to 6 against, with 5 abstention. 4. Draft resolution of the Palestinian refugees’ properties and their revenue, approved by 167 in favor to 7 against, with six abstention. The second term relates to the report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories.
Herein, the General Assembly adopted four resolutions:
1. Draft resolution in the Israeli policies and practices that violated the human rights of the Palestinian people and other Arabs of the occupied territories, approved by a recorded vote of 90 in favor to 9 against, with 75 abstentions.2. Draft resolution in the applicability of the Geneva Convention to the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the other occupied Arab territories. 3. Draft resolution on the Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinian people; including east Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan.
