Gaza Valley, Occupied Territories (TFC) – 80 homes were flooded today when the Israeli military opened the gates to dams in the area. The flood reached 9 feet in height as it washed over homes in the Gaza Valley.

According to Gaza’s Civil Defense Directorate, the opening of the flood gates came without warning, which happens about once a year. There were no human fatalities, but injuries were reported in eastern Gaza. The area’s livestock were decimated.

The flood washed over the road connecting al-Mughraqa district and Nusseirat refugee camp. The road closure forced residents to shelter in place and wait for flood waters to subside. The situation is made worse by the lack of adequate drainage in the area. The construction materials to create adequate drainage are kept out by the Israeli blockade.
