Tel Aviv, Israel – Malak al-Khatib, 14, was released after serving 44 days for picking up a stone near Highway 60 in the West Bank.

Khatib reportedly had her face covered when she picked up a rock. She also had a small knife. Israeli officials claim she confessed to planning to throw stones at Israeli cars and was going to stab an official that tried to arrest her. She did not attempt to stab the cops that grabbed her.

The girl’s father said:

“A 14-year-old girl surrounded by Israeli soldiers will admit to anything.”

There are still 200 Palestinian children in Israeli prisons. Khatib was the youngest.

The Israelis are using this incident to show how merciful they are. They did release the child 16 days early, and could have held her for 20 years because the penalties are so stiff for throwing rocks.
